2025 Alpine Bay Golf Club Championship Recap
We had 80 members to participate in this year’s club championship. That is an excellent turnout. The weather cooperated with us for most of the two days. It was not extremely hot but we did have about a half hour rain delay during Sunday’s round.
Congratulations to Nathan Fernandez as he maintained his title of Club Champion in the men’s division. Nathan posted a two day score of 144 (even par) to edge out Myles Fincher’s 145. Finishing in 3rd place was B G Simmons with a 148. Matt Hardin finished in 1st place in the net with a 130. 2nd & 3rd place in the net went to Cooper Dean with a net 140 and Cory Baird with a net score of 141.
Piper Teal is the new Ladies club champion at Alpine Bay. Piper outlasted Mary Pomroy who finished in 2nd in the ladies championship flight. 1st place in the net division was Michele Whisman followed by Patti Wilcox and Amy Travis who tied for 2nd in the net.
Chris Robertson is the champion of the 1st flight. He had to win it in a shootout on hole #18 against Foo Dorsett. They both posted a two day total of 150. Chris won the shootout over Foo. Foo was awarded 2nd place. Brandon Fincher finished in 3rd place. In the net portion of the 1st flight, Brian Proctor finished in 1st place followed by Randy Burnham 2nd and Cameron Edge finished 3rd.
Moe Bassett reclaimed his title as the Senior Champion by posting a 145 (+1). 2nd place in the senior flight went to Ken Roe (147) and Moses Ngirailab finished in 3rd. In the net portion of the Senior Flight, Steven Powell took 1st place with a net 135 followed by a tie between Andy Payant and Kevin Carpenter who posted 141s.
In the Super Senior Division, Bobby Denty maintained his status as the Super Senior champion. Bobby shot a two day score of 148. Hippie Cleckler finished in 2nd place with a 151. Paul Woo also posted a 151 but Hippie won the call back with a par on #18. In the net portion of the Super Seniors we had a tie for 1st place between Larry Hardwick and Vaughn Wahl. Both golfers posted scores of 137. There was also a tie for 3rd between Don Hopton-Jones and Sam Cooper with net scores of 138.
The winner of the Ladies Open division was Missy Bullen. Finishing in 2nd place was a tie between Donya Barker and Carol Kilgroe. In the Open division, Holly Wood came in 1st place followed by Mary Palmer.
Our lunch on Saturday was prepared by Russell Howard and it was wonderful. Our staff in the kitchen prepared the lunch on Sunday. It was Crawfish Etouffee. It seemed to be a big hit also.
A special thanks to all of our wonderful staff. The maintenance crew had the course in great condition and the clubhouse staff kept everything working smoothly all weekend. Thanks to all of our sponsors that make these events possible. Our total payback was $13,900.00. We look forward to next year’s club championship and hopefully it will be bigger and better.
2025 Papa Johns sponsored Clear Creek Classic (Recap)
We had a full field of 46 teams to compete in this year’s classic. The weather cooperated and although it was the typical July weather (hot), we did manage to get the tournament in without any weather delays.
We offered a breakfast buffet each morning for the golfers. The 1st day of competition was a shotgun start at 9am. Once the golfers had completed their round, they were provided a catfish, fries and coleslaw plate furnished by Jumbo’s burgers, wings and more. The food was fantastic. At the end of Sunday’s round, Papa Johns provided pizza for all of the golfers and tournament workers.
The tournament committee flighted the teams according to the day 1 scores that were posted. We wound up with 4 Flights of teams. Once the teams were Flighted, we held our Calcutta on Saturday afternoon.
Congratulations to the team of Jeff Bullen, Cooper Dean and Rob Graham as they posted a two day total score of 109 to become our overall 2025 Clear Creek Classic Champions. The shot a 55 on day 1 and followed it with a 54 on day 2 to win the $2000.00 1st place prize. The 2nd place team was Brooks Friday, David Head and Kenny McCarthur. They were awarded the $1200.00 2nd place check. Finishing in 3rd was the team of Skyler Kirk, Randy Smith and John Williams. They posted a two day score of 114. The team of Myles Fincher, Steven Shelton and Jordan Whitfield also posted a 114. The tie breaker was a call back from hole #18. Team Kirk birdied #18 and Fincher had a par. 3rd place check was $1000.00 and 4th was $800.00.
The winner in the 1st Flight was the team of Noah Hathorn, Tanner Wilder and Bralin Hathorn $1300.00. They posted 59/57 for a two day total of 116. 2nd place was Chris Palmer, Kyle Sapp and Chuck Rhoem with a 59/60 total of 119 $900.00. 3rd place went to Eric Smith, Kyle Langley and Clay Coughran with a 60/61 total 121 $700.00 and 4th place was Justin Strange, Brian Barrett , Bradley Lynum $600.00. They posted 62/59 121. Team Smith birdied 18 and 17 to win the tiebreaker.
2nd Flight winners were Bobby Denty, Wayne Crow, Leon Wyers with a 64/59 123 $1300.00. 2nd place in a tie breaker went to Helen Spradley, Dwight Spradley and John Harris (66/60)$900.00. 3rd place was Roland Knight, Jeff and Tim Carter (64/62) with a total of 126 $700. 4th place was Sam Cooper, Doug MacMurdo, Dave Johnson with a total of (66/64)130 $600.
In the 3rd Flight Jimmy Ray, Brandon Ray and Rush Rutledge posted a 68/64 132 to take 1st place $1300. 2nd place with a (68/65) 133 was the team of Jason Haithcock, Aiden Haithcock, Mark Emerson$900.00. 3rd place went to Mike Teal, Piper Teal, Rich Robinson ((68/66)$700.00 and 4th was Sam Willingham, Rae Clayton, Donya Barker (68/68) 136 $600.00.
The Calcutta was based on Sunday’s scores only. All ties were divided and split equally. The winners in the Championship flight 1st Bullen, Cooper, Graham 54 (Mary Palmer) $5976.00, 2nd Jimbo Williams, Matt Hardin and Jeremy McCullars 56 (Jimbo Williams) $4482.00, 3rd & 4th 3 way tie between (Friday, Head, McCarthur)- Noah Hathorn, purchaser, (Fincher, Shelton, Whitfield) J Whitfield purchaser and (Kirk, Smith ,Williams) N Hathorn purchaser The 3rd and 4th place prize money, $2988.00 and $1494.00 was divided and split equally between the three purchasers.
The 1st Flight winners were (Hathorn, Wilder and Hathorn) 59 purchaser – Hathorn $5742.00. 2nd place $4306.00 went to (Strange, Barrett, Lynum)59 purchaser -Lynum. We had a tie for 3rd & 4th between the teams of (James Hansen, Matt Perry, Andrew Hardy) Tony Parton purchaser and (Palmer, Sapp, Rhoem) Mary Palmer purchaser. They split the $2871.00 and $1435.00 prize money.
2nd Flight winners were 1st (Denty, Crow, Wyer) 59 J Ingram purchaser $3204. 2nd place (Spradley, Spradley, Harris) 60 Mary Palmer purchaser $2403.00. 3rd place (Knight, Carter, Carter)62- Cole Fincher purchaser $1602.00 and 4th place was (Cooper MacMurdo, Johnson) 64 M Palmer $801.00.
In the 3rd Flight (Ray, Ray, Rutledge) 64 J Ingram $1254.00 took 1st place followed by (Haithcock, Haithcock, Emerson) 65 Haithcock $940 3rd ( Teal, Teal, Robinson)66 Teal $627.00 and 4th went to (Willingham, Clayton, Barker) 68 Priscilla Willingham purchaser $313.00.
A special thanks to all of our tournament sponsors. Also thanks to all of the staff on the maintenance crew and in the clubhouse. The course was in great shape and the clubhouse operated with as much efficiency and courtesy as one could expect.
Between the Calcutta prize money and the tournament pay back, we awarded over $55,000.00.
