Harry Gaither takes 1st place in the 2026 MGA Birdie Challange

Harry Gaither completed his 2026 MGA birdie challenge yesterday. He birdied #4 to complete the challenge. Harry is the 1^st golfer in the upper division to do so and he was awarded the 1^st place prize. There are several golfers that just need a birdie on one more hole to claim the 2^nd place finish.

No one in the lower division has completed their challenge but there are several that just need to record a birdie one or two more holes.

The birdie challenge is to record a birdie on each of the 18 holes while participating in a MGA dogfight. The challenge began with our season premier MGA dogfight in mid February.

2026 Memorial Day Yellow Ball Recap

We had 72 golfers to sign up for the Yellow Ball dogfight. The forecast was doom and gloom but 71 of the golfers still showed up. The rain held off until very late in the round and overall it turned out to be a fun day on the course.

Prior to the start, we held a bell ringing ceremony for Mary Palmer. Mary has completed her radiation and chemo treatment for breast cancer and she wanted to ring the bell on the #1 green. We are all so proud for her and admire her for her great attitude and tenacity while fighting this cancer.

We had 18 teams in the field and 15 teams returned to the clubhouse with the Yellow Ball. We had a four way tie for 1^st place with a dogfight score of +4 with the Yellow Ball. They split all the Yellow Ball prize money ($720.00) 16 ways . They were team 16a (Steve Giddens, Rae Clayton, Chuck Daugherty & Mike Gardner). Team 13 ( Rodney Guy, Tommy Griffin, Ryan Smith & Vaughn Wahl). Team 7 ( Blake Woo, Cory Baird, Brian Proctor & Helen Spradley) and Team 3b ( Mike Griffin, Ray Lineberry, Pramad Bhatia & Jamie Kimberly).

In the regular dogfight portion of the tournament, Rodney Guy’s team finished at +25 points above their quota to take 1 st place and the $380.00 prize. Steve Giddens’ team finished 2^nd at +22 for 2^nd and $240.00. Blake Woo’s team finished 3^rd at +18 (160.00)and we had a tie for 4^th place at +15 between team 6 (R D McDonald, Steve Dean, Hunter Payant & David Gaston) and team 16b ( Mike Sweatman, Chris Palmer, Mark Richard and Sandra Brown. They split the $80.00 4^th place prize.

The individual most over points award went to Ryan Smith who finished +12 above his quota. Chuck Daugherty was 11 points above his quota for 2^nd and Helen Spradley was +10. The two closest to the pins went to Hole #4 at 6’10”to team 12(Brandon Fincher, Hippie Cleckler, Steven Powell & Missy Bullen) Hole #17 (3’8”) went to team 9a (Cooper Dean, Andy Payant, Lee Clark & Jeff Kimbrel).

2026 MGA SEASON PREMIER DOGFIGHT RESULTS

Recap of the 2026 MGA Premier Dogfight held on Feb 14, 2026

We had 50 MGA members to participate in our 2026 season premier dogfight. The lord blessed us with a great February day for golf. The field was randomly drawn into 25 two man teams. The results are listed below. The MGA furnished a breakfast buffet prior to the start of the dogfight.

The team of Mike Pinson and Hondo Galloway posted a score of +7 points above their quota to claim the $300.00 1^st place award. Jeff Bullen and Cooper Dean finished in 2^nd place at +5 for the $240.00 2^nd place award. We had a four team tie for 3^rd place and they split the 3^rd,4^th,5^th & 6^th place prize totaling $460.00. All four teams were +4 points above their quota. Those were the teams of Mike Griffin/Doug MacMurdo, Sam Cooper/Pramad Bhatia, Chris Robertson/Terry Pruet and Steven Powell/Jeff Kimbrel.

Hondo Galloway won the individual most over his point’s prize of $50.00. Hondo was +9. We had $250.00 in the skins pot and we had 5 skins . Mike Griffin had the only birdie on holes 1 & 15, Blake Woo eagled #9, Larry Hardwick had the only birdie on #10 and Gary Burchette eagled #18. Each skin was worth $50.00ea.

There was a $50.00/$15 Papa John’s gift card for closest to the pin award on all four par 3s. Rodney Guy was closest on #4, Skeet Harper was closest on #8 and #14, Ray Ferguson was closest on #17.

Thanks to all the golfers that participated and we hope that you enjoyed the tournament. We look forward to an exciting year with our dogfights. We would like for you members of Alpine Bay to consider joining the MGA and play with us in some of the dogfights. The more participation we have the more lucrative our special tournaments can be.

The cost to join the MGA is $25.00 and we have dogfights on Tuesdays & Thursdays at noon. Friday and Saturday mornings at 9am and Sunday morning at 10am. The Tuesday and Thursday dogfights are in conjunction with the afternoon matches. You have to be in the match to be in the dogfight. It is $10 to play and the Fri, Sat & Sun dogfights are $20.
