2026 Papa Johns Clear Creek Classic Recap

2026 Papa John’s Clear Creek Classic Recap

It was a long weekend of golf at Alpine Bay. We had 50 teams in the tournament. There was a threat of storms both days.  We were able to get the two days of golf completed without delay.

Saturday’s round was completed and a meal was provided for the golfers. We had a catfish plate with Cole slaw, baked beans and hushpuppies.  The meal was prepared by Bull Dog catering.  We had 5 flights in the tournament.  The Calcutta was held once everybody completed their meal and Saturday’s scores were recorded.

We had heavy rain during the Calcutta, later that night and again early Sunday morning.  The rain prevented the maintenance crew from working bunkers, cutting greens and moving pins for Sunday’s round.

Papa John’s provided pizza for all the golfers after Sunday’s round while the final results were being finalized.

In the Championship flight the team of James Otwell, Tanner Wilder and Noah Hathorn posted an overall total of 111 to claim the Clear Creek Championship. They posted a 57 on day one and a 54 on day 2. The 2nd day 54 was also the low score in the Calcutta. The team of Ellison, Ellison and Boyles posted a 116 to win 2nd in the tournament. They also had a hole in one on #4. Burnham, Rouse and Rouse posted a 117 to take 3rd in a call back from #18 over the team of Hathorn, Hathorn and Hill who received the 4th place prize. These two teams also posted a 56 on day two. They split the 2nd & 3rd place Calcutta prize. The team of Kirk, Smith and Williams also had a hole in one on #8. They were playing with Ellison, Ellison, Boyles.  Amazing that the same group of golfers had two hole in ones on the same day.

1st Flight winners were the team of Denty, Crow and Bassett with a total score of 122. They also took 1st in the Calcutta with a 60. Four teams shot 124 and the call back decided the winners. 2nd place went to Wahl, Shelton and Brown. 3rd went to Knight, Knight and Conner. Four teams posted a 61 on Sunday and the 2nd and 3rd place Calcutta money was divided and split four ways. Those four teams were Wahl, Shelton and Brown, Knight, Knight and Conner,  Smith, Brasher and Coughran, and Clayton, Riggins and Dailey.

The 2nd flight winners were Hardin, Williams and Edwards with a 122. They also took 1st in the Calcutta with a 57. Three teams posted a 126 to tie for 2nd,3rd and 4th place. Once again the call back from 18 decided the winners 2nd went to the team of Cooper, Grimes and Sawyer. 3rd went to Cleckler, Cleckler and Ngirailab and 4th went to Green, Hodges and Fernandez.  Green, Hodges, Fernandez and Cooper, Grimes and Sawyer posted 61 on day 2 to split 2nd and 3rd place Calcutta.

In the 3rd Flight, Mills, Whitmire and Keffner took 1st place in the tournament and Calcutta with a 131 tournament score and a 64 Calcutta score, The team of Powell, Griffin and Stubbs posted a 135 for 2nd place. The 3rd place winners were Daugherty, Carpenter and Sweatman with a 136. Both 2nd and 3rd place teams also split the 2nd and 3rd place Calcutta money with a score of 68.

The 4th Flight winners were Brown, Brown and Travis with a 144. Spradley, Spradley and Willingham took 2nd place by call back over Wood, Wood and Hay. Both posting a two day total of 145. Spradley, Spradley and Willingham took 1st in the Calcutta with a 71. Brown, Brown and Travis shot a 72 as well as Wood, Wood and Hay to split the 2nd & 3rd place Calcutta prize.

A special note of thanks to our sponsors: Papa John’s Pizza, Hardin HVAC, Tygre Roofing, Cotney Aerospace, The Alpine Bay Men’s Golf Association, Davison Insurance and Southland Golf Carts.
