2024 Pin Setter’s Revenge Dogfight Recap

Recap of the Alpine Bay Golf Inaugural (Pin Setters Revenge) Dogfight

We had 36 golfers to compete in our Revenge dogfight. It was a bit windy and the pins were positioned in places on the green that are seldom used.  Most of the golfers enjoyed the challenge.

We also had an optional $5.00 side pot that went to any golfer that completed the round without a 3 putt. If no one accomplished the feat, the money would go to our Toys for Tots campaign. There were 34 golfers that entered and the $170.00 pot is now a part of our fundraiser campaign. I actually don’t think anyone made it to #9 without a 3 putt.

The field was randomly drawn up into nine; 4-golfer teams. Two teams tied for 1st place at -8 on their point’s total.  One of the winning teams was Chris Robertson, Cory Baird, Tony Parton and Brian Proctor. The other team was Joe Howard, Thomas Cramer, Joel McNutt and Missy Bullen. Each of these golfer received $32.00 in club credit. The 3rd place team was made up of Paul Woo, Ray Ferguson, Shane Cleckler and Steven Powell. They finished at -14.

We had $175 in the skins pot and we had seven skins. Steve Giddens birdied #2 for a skin, Mike Sweatman had the only birdie on #4, Jeff Bullen birdied #8, Chris Robertson birdied #10, Mike Bauder birdied #14, Andy Payant birdied #15 and Doug MacMurdo birdied #17.  Each skin was worth $25.00. Cory Baird took the most over prize at +3 ($36.00). Sam Cooper won closest to the pin on #4 and Tony Parton was closest to the pin on #17 ($36.00ea).

Thanks to all the golfers that participated. It was a fun event that we will plan to do again next December.

2024 Labor Day Yellow Ball Dogfight Results

Labor Day Yellow Ball Wrap up

We had 14 teams (56 golfers) in our Labor Day Yellow Ball Dogfight. Each team is issued a marked Yellow Ball and it has to be played by one of the golfers on each hole and it is then passed on to another golfer on the next hole. A rotation has to be established prior the team teeing off on their first hole. If the Yellow Ball is lost, the entire team is eliminated from the Yellow Ball portion of the dogfight.  Amazingly there was only one lost Yellow Ball.

The tournament was a shotgun start at 9am and the weather was perfect for a morning of golf. The pace of play was very good and the Alpine Bay MGA provided hotdogs for all the golfers after the dogfight.

The regular dogfight results were as follows:

The team of Steve Giddens, Cory Baird, Don Hopton Jones and Chuck Daugherty took 1st place. Their team scored 110 points and that was +12 above their points quota of 98. 2nd place went to Craig Hamilton, Hippie Cleckler, Mike McGrew and Jimmy Berning. Their quota was  95 points and they posted 105 with a difference of +10.  3rd place went to the team of Paul Woo, Randy McDonald, Andy Payant and Teri Daugherty. Their quota was  85 and they posted a 93.  We had a tie for 4th place between the team of Cooper Dean, Bob Whitmire, Sam Cooper and Walter Peterson and the team of Jimbo Williams, Randy Burnham, Jeremy Cooper and Steven Powell. Both teams were 6 points above their quota.

The Yellow Ball winners were as follows:

1st place went to the team of Chris Robertson, Tony Parton, Angie Kuhens, and Missy Bullen. They made 28 points with the Yellow Ball and that was 6.5 above their Yellow Ball quota of 22.5. 2nd place went to the team of Woo, McDonald, Payant and Daugherty. Their Yellow Ball was 4.75 above their quota. 3rd went to Giddens, Baird, Hopton Jones and Daugherty with a +3.5. 4th place went to Mike Sweatman, Doug Macmurdo, Chris Palmer and Jeff Kimbrel at +2.25.

There was only one Yellow Ball skin and it went to the Chris Robertson team when Angie Kuhens was the only Yellow Ball to birdie the #4 par 3.

This was a 100% payback dogfight with a total purse of $1680.00. Thanks to the Alpine Bay MGA (Men’s Golf Association) for sponsoring this event.

We had 57 members play in our tournament. The Lord blessed us with two magnificent days of weather for our 2024 Club Championship. No clouds, mid to upper 80s and a slight breeze. It does not get any better than that in August in Alabama.

The MGA furnished us with breakfast each day and Max Whitfield furnished doughnuts on Sunday morning. Ray Lineberry and PaPa John’s pizza provided  lunch on Sunday afternoon.

Our maintenance crew had the course in very good shape and our clubhouse staff did a great job taking care of all of the orders and deliveries. We really do appreciate all that our entire staff does for us.

Now the results:

2024 Clear Creek Classic Results

We had a full field of 44 teams to participate in our 2024 Clear Creek Classic. It was hot and humid for both days but we were fortunate enough to dodge the severe weather that was a threat on both days. We did have a brief down pour of rain near the conclusion of the second round.

The BBQ rib plate meal that was served to the golfers at the conclusion of the 1st round was wonderful and it was prepared by Half Time Bar BQ located in Lincoln AL. We held our Calcutta after the meal was served and the Flighting had been established.  Pa Pa John’s provided the pizza at the conclusion of the second day of play.

The team of Dusty Ellison, Jordan Anderton and Tragg Tew are our 2024 Clear Creek Classic Champions. They shot a round of 56 on day one and followed it up with a 58 on day two for a winning score of 114.   Two teams shot a two day total of 115 to tie for 2nd place. The team of B G Simmons, Bobby McClung and Billy Prentice was awarded 2nd place over the team of Noah Hathorne, Braylin Hathorne and Tanner Wilder. There was a call back beginning with hole #18. Both teams birdied holes 18,17 & 16 but the Simmons team also birdied #15 to decide the call back. Hathorne, Hathorne and Wilder were awarded the 3rd place prize.

Once again congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to the 2025Clear Creek Classic.

2024 Alpine Bay’s Member/Member Tournament Wrap Up

2024 Alpine Bay Golf – Member/Member Results

We had 42 teams to sign up and play in our Member/Member Tournament. That is a great turnout and we appreciate all of you for playing. The weather was sunny and hot for both days but that is normal for late June.

The festivities began on Friday night as we fed the teams a wonderful catfish dinner provided by Russell Howard. Immediately after the dinner we held our Calcutta. After all the teams were auctioned, we had just over $30,000.00 in the Calcutta.

The tournament and Calcutta was paid back to the top team’s net scores except the Championship flight. There were no handicaps involved in the Championship flight. The tournament format was a Scramble on day 1 and a Shamble on day 2.

We had a tie for 1st place in the Championship flight with scores of 123. That resulted in a sudden death shootout that took place on #18. Moses Ngirailab and Rodney Guy were tied with B G Simmons and Moe Bassett.  The shootout was a continuation of the shamble format just like the day 2 format. Both teams made birdie in the 1st round. They both made pars in rounds 2 & 3. Moses and Rodney recorded a birdie again in the 4th round to clinch the shootout and 1st place in the tournament. 3rd place in the Championship flight went to the team of Jeff Bullen and Max Whitfield with a score of 124.

Taking 1st place in the 1st flight was the team of Shane Harris and D W McKay with a net score of 123. 2nd & 3rd was a tie with net score of 124. That was the teams of Hippie & Shane Cleckler and Randy & Austin Burnham.

1st place in the 2nd flight went to the team of Abby Cerwich and Jinks Marlowe with a net score of 118. 2nd place went to Chris Robertson and Hondo Galloway with a 120. Brandon Fincher and Jan Parton finished in 3rd with a score of 122.

The 3rd flight winners with a score of 124 went to Chris Palmer and Steve Willingham. We had a tie for 2nd & 3rd between the teams of Bob & Don Hopton-Jones and Brian Proctor & Don Carroll. Both teams posted a 124.

The 4th flight winner was the team of Kimberly Stubbs and Steven Powell with a net total of 116. Ryan & Brian Smith finished in 2nd with a 122. There was a tie for 3rd place between Matthew & Michelle Whisman and Amy & Mathu Travis. Both of those teams posted a 123.

The teams got to enjoy lunch provided by  PaPa John’s Pizza while they watched the shootout and during the awards presentations.  Thanks again to all of our loyal hole sponsors. These tournaments couldn’t be near as successful with our sponsors.

I want to thank all of our employees and volunteers for all of the hard work that they provide during these busy events.
